Baby Saima Akter Mim, only 2 months old, has been diagnosed with a serious congenital condition called Anorectal Malformation (ARM). This condition means that her anus is not properly formed, making it extremely difficult and painful for her to pass stool. As a result, she is at constant risk of severe infection, digestive complications, and life-threatening health issues. Doctors have advised that urgent surgery and continued medical care are essential for her survival. With timely treatment and proper follow-up, Baby Saima has a strong chance to live a healthy, normal life. However, without treatment, her condition will worsen, leading to chronic pain, repeated infections, severe nutritional problems, and potentially fatal complications. Her parents, who come from a very poor background, are unable to afford the high cost of surgery and post-operative care. They are desperately seeking support to save their little girl’s life.

Background
Baby Saima Akter Mim, only 2 months old, lives in a broken tin-shed house in Pabna with her parents and six other family members, who struggle every day to meet even their basic needs. Her father’s small income is barely enough to feed the family, leaving them helpless to afford the costly surgery their baby urgently needs. Despite her tender age, Mim is a sweet and calm child whose innocent smile gives hope to her worried family. Without timely treatment for her anorectal malformation, she risks unbearable pain, repeated infections, and life-threatening complications. With proper medical care, however, Mim has the chance to grow up healthy, bringing happiness and relief to her struggling family
Medical history
The patient was admitted with complaints of difficulty during defecation and occasional discomfort during urination. After thorough evaluation, the case was diagnosed as an ano-cutaneous fistula, and an anoplasty surgery was successfully performed under general anesthesia on 21/09/2025. The procedure went smoothly without complications, and the patient showed steady improvement during the hospital stay. On 25/09/2025, the patient was discharged in stable condition with proper postoperative advice. The patient’s guardian expressed heartfelt gratitude to Helpster Charity, the dedicated volunteers, and the Olympus Hospital team for their compassionate care and invaluable support throughout the treatment journey.
Prognosis
Doctors have explained that with timely surgical treatment and proper ongoing care, Baby Saima’s life can improve significantly. Surgery for Anorectal Malformation (ARM) can create a functional anus, allowing her to pass stool normally and greatly reducing the risk of painful complications and infections. With proper follow-up, many children with ARM can grow up leading a healthy, relatively normal life. However, if Baby Saima does not receive treatment, her condition will continue to worsen. She would likely experience severe pain, chronic constipation, repeated infections, and potentially life-threatening complications. Over time, untreated ARM can lead to serious digestive and nutritional problems, and her overall quality of life would be extremely compromised. Early intervention is critical to give her the best chance of survival and a healthy childhood.
