Raihan Ali has been struggling with frequent fever and throat infections since childhood, which worsened significantly over the past year. His symptoms no longer respond to medicines or antibiotics, leaving him in constant discomfort and at risk of further complications. After thorough evaluation at Dhaka Medical College, he was diagnosed with chronic adenotonsillitis and advised to undergo adenotonsillectomy, a surgery that can finally bring him relief and improve his quality of life. Adenotonsillitis is the inflammation and infection of the adenoids and tonsils, often causing recurrent sore throat, difficulty swallowing, fever, and breathing problems, especially in children.

Background
Raihan Ali, a 16-year-old boy from Doulatkhan, Bhola, lives in a small tin house with his parents and four siblings. His father struggles to earn about 8,000 BDT a month as a rickshaw puller, while his mother works in households, and together their income barely covers food, rent, and school expenses. Despite his illness, Raihan is resilient, bright, and full of dreams — he loves football and aspires to become a doctor to serve others. However, his chronic adenotonsillitis now causes him constant pain, fever, and sore throat, leaving him weak and unable to focus on studies or play. Without the advised surgery, his condition may worsen, affecting his education, health, and the dreams that his entire family holds for his future.
Medical history
Raihan’s journey through treatment was filled with both challenges and hope. Before surgery, constant fever and throat pain left him weak and unable to enjoy school or football, the game he loved most. Thanks to timely support, he underwent his adenotonsillectomy successfully. The recovery days were not easy, but each small step being able to eat comfortably, sleep peacefully, and smile again was a victory. Today, Raihan feels stronger, more hopeful, and dreams of pursuing his studies with renewed energy.
Prognosis
The doctor’s prognosis is that with adenotonsillectomy, Rayhan will finally be free from the cycle of recurring infections, sore throat, and high fever that have disrupted his childhood. The surgery will allow him to regain his strength, focus on his studies, and actively participate in the activities he loves, like playing football. It will also reduce the risk of long-term complications such as sleep disturbances, breathing difficulties, or chronic infections. However, if left untreated, Rayhan’s condition may continue to worsen, leaving him weak, unable to study properly, and at risk of serious health problems that could affect his future. Timely treatment is therefore essential to restore his health and protect his dreams
