She was subsequently referred to Kory Family Hospital, a partner of Helpster Charity, on 18th September 2025 for specialist intervention. Burns affecting the genital area must be managed in a highly specialized hospital because they are complex, delicate, and potentially life-altering injuries that require advanced medical care. The genital and perineal areas are close to the urinary and anal openings, which increases the risk of contamination and severe infection. Specialized burn units have the equipment and expertise to prevent and manage infections effectively. Also, Damage to the genital area can affect urination, fertility, and sexual function. Specialized hospitals have urologists and gynecologists who work together to minimize long-term complications.

Sarah was referred to Korry Family Hospital for specialist management after sustaining burns affecting approximately 18% of her body. She received specialized care with close monitoring and daily reviews until she responded well to treatment and was discharged in stable condition. At her follow-up visit two weeks later, she was noted to be improving significantly and continues to attend physiotherapy.

Sarah, a 1-year-old with 18% second-degree burns, is at moderate to high risk due to her young age and the extent of the injury.
