Background
Afsona Begum, a 30-year-old resilient mother of three, lives with her husband and extended family of six in a fragile home by the banks of the Brahmaputra River. Her husband earns only 8,000 BDT a month as a day laborer, a meager income that barely feeds the family and is further strained by repeated losses from riverbank erosion that destroyed their home four times. Now 37 weeks pregnant, Afsona’s ultrasound has revealed severe oligohydramnios, with amniotic fluid levels dangerously low (largest pocket <1 cm), placing both her and her unborn baby at critical risk. Doctors have advised urgent medical intervention to save their lives, but the family cannot afford the cost. Without treatment, Afsona faces life-threatening complications, and the baby may not survive, leaving this already struggling family devastated.
Medical history
Afsona Begun was admitted to the hospital on September 24, 2025, with a diagnosis of severe oligohydramnios. On the same day, she had a successful cesarean section and gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Both mother and newborn were discharged on September 28, 2025, in good health. Prognosis
