Mustapha a 9 year old boy leaves with his aunt at tajuwa village he wanted to become a teacher when grown up his father was a farmer. Mustapha was admitted to Ayaji hospital, He was presented with a complaint of an umbilical swelling that had been present for about three months. This swelling was followed with pain and vomiting which was temporarily relieved by lying up in the right position. The pain was severe enough to restrict his daily activities and prevent him from attending school. He was using pain-reducing medication prior to admission. Upon presentation at our hospital, and after further evaluation he was diagnosed with incarcerated umbilical hernia.

Following a successful surgical repair of an umbilical hernia of Mustapha, the child is closely monitored, with adequate pain control provided using medications such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. Attention is also given to the surgical site to minimize the risk of infection. a day after the surgery, the child gradually resumes normal feeding and daily activities, with noticeable improvement in comfort and overall wellbeing. The wound heals steadily, and in most cases, there are no signs of infection, swelling, or discharge. With proper postoperative care—including good wound hygiene and adherence to prescribed medications—full recovery is expected. Follow-up visits remain essential to assess healing and detect any rare complications early. The likelihood of recurrence is very low, and the child can safely return to normal activities, including play and sports, once healing is complete and clearance is given by the surgeon. The pain also interfered with his daily activities and school attendance. Prompt surgery is required to reduce the trapped bowel back into the abdominal cavity and close the defect to prevent permanent damage to the intestine.
