Sidratul Muntaha is a preterm baby with low birth weight who developed severe respiratory distress shortly after birth. Medical evaluation revealed congenital heart disease, including a closed patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), a small atrial septal defect (ASD), and mild pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). These conditions caused difficulty in breathing and poor oxygenation, requiring intensive medical care and monitoring. With timely treatment and supportive therapy, her condition has gradually stabilized, but she continues to need careful follow-up for her heart and lung health.

Background
Sidratul Muntaha, a delicate newborn baby girl born before her due date, brought immense joy and fear to her struggling family in Keranigonj, Dhaka. Her father, Md. Shamim, works tirelessly as a day laborer earning only 12,000 taka a month—barely enough to feed the family, let alone afford expensive NICU care. When Sidratul developed apnea, severe breathing distress, and hypocalcemia after birth, her tiny body fought for every breath. Without immediate medical treatment, she could have suffered heart failure or brain damage, and her fragile life might not have been saved. Despite their poverty, her parents remain hopeful and deeply grateful for the help that gave their first child a chance to live and grow.
Medical history
Sidratul Muntaha, an eight-day-old baby girl, was admitted to Al-Manar Hospital Ltd., Dhaka, on September 20th, 2025, with severe respiratory distress, low birth weight, and difficulty breathing following preterm birth. Doctors diagnosed her with congenital heart disease (closed PDA with small ASD and mild PAH) along with hypocalcemia. She was treated in the NICU for six days and then shifted to the general ward and was on conservative treatment for 5 days, receiving oxygen therapy, CPAP support, IV medications, calcium supplementation, and phototherapy. After consistent medical care and careful monitoring, her condition improved, and she was discharged on October 1st, 2025, in stable condition. The attending doctors noted satisfactory recovery and advised continued follow-up care. The family expressed their gratitude to Helpster Charity for supporting Sidratul’s treatment and hospital care.
Prognosis
According to the doctor’s prognosis, Sidratul Muntaha required intensive NICU care to manage her breathing difficulties, heart condition, and low calcium levels. Treatments such as oxygen inhalation, CPAP support, IV fluids, medications, and careful feeding helped stabilize her vital functions and promote recovery. With proper management, she has a strong chance of growing and developing normally under medical supervision. However, if left untreated, her respiratory distress and heart complications could have led to life-threatening consequences such as heart failure, brain damage, or death. Continued care and monitoring are essential to ensure her long-term health and survival.
