Background
Akaeid is a bright 10-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a doctor one day, but today he is fighting severe abdominal pain caused by acute appendicitis. His family of five lives in a crowded camp with very limited income, struggling just to cover daily food and shelter, leaving them unable to afford the urgent surgery he needs. Despite his gentle nature and love for gardening, Akaeid now spends his days in pain, unable to play or study. Without immediate treatment, his appendix could rupture, leading to life-threatening infection and unimaginable suffering. His family’s greatest wish is to save their son’s life, but they cannot do it alone and are in desperate need of support.
Medical history
Akaeid was admitted to the hospital on 27.09.2025 with severe pain in the right iliac fossa, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps. Clinical examination revealed tenderness in the right lower abdomen and a positive Rovsing’s sign, confirming a diagnosis of acute appendicitis. He was immediately prepared for surgery, and an emergency appendicectomy was performed successfully under anesthesia. The inflamed appendix was removed, and postoperative care included antibiotics, pain relief, and fluid therapy to support recovery. After surgery, his condition improved steadily, with the pain subsiding and normal bowel movements returning. He tolerated food well and showed no signs of infection or complications. By 30.09.2025, Akaeid had fully recovered and was discharged from the hospital in stable condition, advised to rest and attend follow-up for wound care.
Prognosis
The doctor explained that an appendicectomy under general anesthesia is the safest and most effective treatment for Akaeid’s condition. With timely surgery, his symptoms will resolve, and he is expected to make a full recovery, allowing him to return to normal activities without long-term complications. However, if the condition is left untreated, the inflamed appendix may rupture, spreading infection throughout the abdomen. This can cause peritonitis, sepsis, and life-threatening complications that are far more difficult and costly to manage. Early surgical intervention is therefore critical to protect Akaeid’s health and ensure a safe outcome.
