Her husband works as a day laborer, earning just 6,000 BDT per month, which is barely enough to cover basic needs, making it impossible for the family to afford the urgently needed C-section. Rita’s current pregnancy is complicated by a breech presentation, where the baby’s feet or buttocks are positioned to come first, adding serious risks to an already dangerous situation due to her previous obstructed labor. Without the planned surgery, both Rita and her baby face life-threatening complications such as uterine rupture, birth trauma, or severe bleeding. Despite her courage and dedication to her family, their extreme poverty puts this life-saving treatment far out of reach, endangering both mother and child.
Medical history
Mst. Rita Begum was admitted to the hospital for a planned C-section at 36 weeks of pregnancy due to the baby’s breech presentation and her previous history of obstructed labor. The surgery was performed successfully under the supervision of an experienced medical team. A healthy baby was delivered safely, and both mother and child remained stable throughout the procedure. After the operation, Rita received proper post-surgical care, including antibiotics and pain management, and her recovery progressed smoothly. Within a few days, she was able to move comfortably and care for her newborn. Both mother and baby are now healthy, with Rita feeling grateful and relieved after a safe delivery and full recovery.
Prognosis
According to the doctor, a Lower Uterine Cesarean Section (LUCS) under spinal anesthesia is the safest option for Mst. Rita Begum and her baby. This surgery will allow the baby to be delivered safely, avoiding the serious risks associated with a breech vaginal birth, such as fetal distress, birth injury, or prolonged labor. It also protects Rita from life-threatening complications like uterine rupture or excessive bleeding, which could occur if she attempts a normal delivery. Without this surgical intervention, both mother and baby face a high risk of severe complications or even death. The LUCS provides the best chance for a healthy mother and child, ensuring a safe start for the newborn and peace of mind for the family.
