Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About pulmonology
Acute severe asthma, also known as status asthmaticus, is an acute exacerbation of asthma that does not respond to standard treatments of bronchodilators and corticosteroids. In simple terms — it’s when someone with asthma keeps having trouble breathing even after using their inhaler or medicine, and their breathing keeps getting worse. It’s a medical emergency that needs urgent hospital care to help open the airways and get enough oxygen.

Background
Wayne, the sixth child in a family of seven, is in Grade 1 at a local public day primary school and dreams of becoming a teacher in the future. He lives with both parents; his father works as a casual laborer and his mother is a hawker at the local market, earning approximately 2,500 KES per month. The family typically manages only two meals a day. Wayne was brought to the hospital by his mother after experiencing four convulsions within 12 hours. The seizures involved full-body stiffness and uncontrollable shaking, but unlike some seizures, he did not appear confused or drowsy afterward. Prior to the convulsions, his mother noted that he had a high fever, was very irritable, and generally unwell, although there was no vomiting or diarrhea. Upon arrival at the hospital, Wayne appeared very ill. He had a high temperature of 38.7°C, showed signs of dehydration, and was struggling to breathe. There was no evidence of anemia or jaundice. After thorough evaluation, the doctors diagnosed him with status epilepticus (a severe condition involving repeated seizures) along with a bacterial infection. He was immediately started on appropriate treatment.
Medical history
Wayne was admitted with recurrent convulsions ocurring every 5 minutes, and apeared acutely ill. Through support from the Helpster Charity Organization, Wayne was able to receive this life-saving treatment free of charge, including medications and hospital care. Wayne responded well to treatment, stabilized within a few days, and was later discharged in good condition. He was advised on regular follow-up, proper use of inhalers, and avoiding asthma triggers. The support from Helpster Charity played a key role in ensuring timely treatment, leading to his full recovery and return to normal daily activities.
Prognosis
Wayne’s prognosis is cautiously optimistic. With prompt and appropriate treatment for status epilepticus and the bacterial infection, his condition can be stabilized. Close monitoring, adherence to prescribed medications, adequate hydration, and follow-up care are essential to prevent complications. With continued medical support and proper care, Wayne is expected to recover, though ongoing monitoring and medication may be needed to manage any future seizure episodes.
