This complication often arises 2-3 weeks after fever onset, presenting with sudden severe abdominal pain, tenderness, rigidity (especially right lower quadrant), fever, vomiting, and signs of sepsis like toxicity or shock. For a 16-year-old, it demands emergency surgery, but delayed diagnosis or treatment heightens risks The child has a serious abdominal infection (peritonitis) caused by a hole in the intestine from typhoid fever, leading to severe pain, fever, and vomiting and requiring urgent surgery and treatment.

Babayo Muhammed is a bright and determined 16-year-old girl known for her calm and caring nature. She enjoys spending time with friends, reading storybooks, and helping her family at home. She developed high fever, abdominal pain, and vomiting that worsened over a week. Her condition became severe with widespread abdominal pain and weakness. She was brought to our hospital. Upon presentation at our hospital, and after further clinical evaluation ,she was diagnosed with generalized peritonitis caused by typhoid perforation — a serious infection from a hole in the intestine. She is critically ill but conscious and receiving medical care and investigations at the hospital.
Medical history
Babayo underwent emergency surgery to repair the typhoid perforation and received comprehensive medical treatment, including intravenous antibiotics, fluids, pain management, and post-operative care. Following the surgery and treatment, the patient's condition improved significantly and recovery has been steady under close medical supervision.
Prognosis
Acute typhoid perforation with peritonitis in a 16-year-old like Babaniyo Mohammed represents a life-threatening surgical emergency requiring immediate intervention.
