Twelve-year-old Jannati Akter, a bright student who dreams of becoming a teacher and loves reading books, has been suffering from severe throat pain and high fever for months due to a dangerous peri-tonsillar abscess. Her father, Delwar Hossain, is visually impaired with no income, and her mother earns only 3,000 BDT as a housemaid, barely enough to feed their small family of three after losing two sons. Because of this extreme poverty, they cannot afford the urgent treatment Jannati now needs. Doctors warned that without immediate medical care, the infection could spread to her neck and chest, cause breathing difficulty, or even become life-threatening. Despite her determination and gentle nature, Jannati’s future—and her dream of completing her education—hangs in the balance unless help arrives in time.
Medical history
Most Jannati Akter was admitted to the hospital on October 3, 2025, with a diagnosis of Peritonsillar Abscess. On the same day, a Tonsillectomy was performed by the attending physician. The procedure was successful, and the patient showed satisfactory recovery. After two days of post-operative observation and care, she was discharged on October 5, 2025, in good health and stable condition. Upon discharge, her parents came to the hospital to receive her. The family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Helpster, Mother Clinic, and Bablu Abdullah for their dedicated treatment and support. Her father extended special thanks to Helpster for providing financial assistance during the treatment process.
Prognosis
The doctor explained that surgical removal of the tonsils (tonsillectomy) will relieve Jannati from repeated throat infections, fever, and swallowing difficulties, allowing him to regain a normal quality of life. Successful treatment will also prevent frequent absences from work and reduce the financial burden of repeated medications. If left untreated, his condition may progress to serious complications such as peritonsillar abscess, obstructive sleep apnea, or chronic infection that can further weaken his health. Early surgery is therefore strongly advised to ensure long-term recovery and prevent life-threatening complications.
