Mst Arifa Akter Akhi is a bright and kind 12-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a school teacher someday. She lives with her poor family, where her father works as a day laborer and struggles to provide for their basic needs. Despite their hardships, Arifa remains cheerful and hopeful, but her life has recently been overshadowed by a severe throat infection that turned into a Peri-tonsillar Abscess. Doctors have advised urgent surgery, yet her family cannot afford the cost due to their very limited income. Without immediate treatment, the infection could spread and block her airway, putting her young life in grave danger and shattering her dreams of a better future for her family.
Medical history
Mst. Arifa Akter Akhi was admitted to the hospital on 27 August 2025 with a diagnosis of peritonsillar abscess, a serious throat infection. She underwent a successful tonsillectomy on the same day, followed by proper post-operative care and monitoring by the medical team. After showing steady recovery, she was discharged on 1 September 2025 in stable and good health. Arifa and her family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Helpster Charity, its volunteers, Mother Clinic, and Mr. Bablu Abdullah for their compassionate support and quality treatment. Her parents especially thanked Helpster for the financial assistance, which made it possible for her to receive timely and life-saving medical care.
Prognosis
The doctor explained that surgical removal of the tonsils (tonsillectomy) with drainage of abscess will relieve Arifa from repeated throat infections, fever, and swallowing difficulties, allowing her to regain a normal quality of life. Successful treatment will also prevent frequent absences from work and reduce the financial burden of repeated medications. If left untreated, her condition may progress to serious complications such as peritonsillar abscess, obstructive sleep apnea, or chronic infection that can further weaken her health. Early surgery is therefore strongly advised to ensure long-term recovery and prevent life-threatening complications.
