Fourteen-year-old Abdul Malek, a bright and kind-hearted boy who dreams of becoming a teacher, has been struggling for months with a painful swelling on his right eyelid that has now grown into a troubling chalazion, affecting his vision and schoolwork. His father, Abdul Mannan, is the only earning member of the family, but due to age-related illnesses, a previous stroke, and heart disease, he can no longer work regularly, leaving the family in deep poverty. With their three daughters already married or studying, and living in a small tin-roofed house relying on public water and a shared pit latrine, they have no savings to afford the costly surgery needed to save Abdul’s eye. Doctors have warned that without timely treatment, the swelling could worsen, leading to infection, increased pain, or even long-term vision impairment. Abdul Malek, a 14-year-old boy, required excision of a Chalazion in his Right eye because the growth was causing discomfort and interfering with his vision. The surgery was performed under local anesthesia by Dr. Md. Monir Hossain, Consultant of the Hospital, ensuring a safe and precise procedure. Throughout the treatment, Malek remained stable, and the surgical process went smoothly without complications. After the operation, his eye healed well under regular medical supervision. He gradually became more comfortable, and the irritation he had been experiencing was relieved. His visual acuity improved significantly, allowing him to see clearly again. The doctors explained that the procedure is minor but must be performed under general anesthesia to ensure the child’s safety and comfort. Following the surgery, Abdul will need routine follow-up visits and medication to ensure proper healing and prevent recurrence. The doctors are optimistic that the surgery will successfully restore normal vision and eye comfort, allowing Abdul to continue his studies and daily life without pain or obstruction. They warned, however, that delaying the surgery could result in worsening infection, tissue damage, or even permanent visual impairment in the affected eye.
