Twin babies, Abdullah Al Ayan and Abdur Rahman, are fragile one-month-old premature boys born into a hardworking but impoverished farming family in Barura, Cumilla. Their father, Md. Al Amin, earns only 6,500 Taka per month through farming and day labor, which is barely enough to feed the family of six, making the BDT 36,000 cost for urgent eye treatment impossible to afford. Both twins were diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) due to their premature birth and neonatal oxygen therapy, putting them at high risk of permanent blindness if untreated. The babies’ loving mother, Boishakhi Akter, and elderly grandparents, Motaleb Molla and Anowara Begum, worry constantly about their survival and future. Without immediate Anti-VEGF injections and follow-up care, the twins’ vision could be irreversibly lost, and their chance at a healthy, bright future would be severely compromised, prompting the family to urgently seek support from Helpster Charity.

Abdullah Al Ayan, a 1-month-old baby boy, was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can threaten vision if not treated at an early stage. To prevent further complications, Anti-VEGF injections were administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment was conducted with great care, and his condition was closely observed through regular follow-up visits. Abdullah responded well to the injections, and a gradual improvement was seen in his retinal health. The abnormal blood vessel growth has now been brought under control. His retinal condition has improved significantly, giving hope for normal visual development. According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, both Abdullah and Abdur Rahman urgently need Anti-VEGF (Avastin) injections in their eyes to stop the progression of abnormal blood vessels and protect their developing retinas. The doctors strongly believe that with timely treatment and proper follow-up, the twins’ vision can be restored, allowing them to grow up healthy and sighted. However, if treatment is delayed or not provided, the disease could advance rapidly, resulting in irreversible blindness. The estimated treatment cost of BDT 18,000 per baby (BDT 36,000 total) is impossible for this struggling family to afford. With the kind support of Helpster Charity and its generous donors, these two innocent babies can be given the gift of sight — a chance to see their parents’ faces, explore the colors of life, and grow up with dreams and hope in their eyes.
