Abdur Rahman is a gentle and responsive six-month-old baby who smiles at familiar voices but is unable to see the faces of his parents due to congenital cataracts in both eyes. His father, Arman Bepary, a 24-year-old autorickshaw driver earning about BDT 8,000 per month, is the sole provider for a seven-member household, while his young mother, Mahmuda Begum, depends entirely on this limited income. The family lives in a fragile tent-like shelter, and their modest earnings are barely enough to cover daily food, leaving them unable to afford specialized eye surgery. If Abdur does not receive timely treatment, his vision loss may become permanent, severely affecting his brain development, learning ability, and quality of life. With support, this treatment can give Abdur the chance to see his parents for the first time and grow up with hope instead of darkness. During evaluation at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, the family was informed by Ms. Nasima Akhter, Counselor of the Pediatric Unit, about Helpster Charity as a potential source of support.

Abdur Rahman, a 1-year-old child, required urgent cataract surgery in the right eye as the condition was significantly affecting vision development at this early age. The surgery was performed under general anesthesia by Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sk, Chief Consultant of the Hospital, ensuring the child’s comfort and safety throughout the procedure. The treatment progressed smoothly, with the medical team carefully monitoring Abdur Rahman during and after surgery. As healing began, Rahman showed steady improvement, responding well to the treatment plan. The cataract removal successfully restored clarity, and visual acuity improved remarkably. Now Rahman feels much more comfortable and can see clearly, which will greatly support healthy visual growth. This positive outcome has brought immense relief and joy to the family. According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Abdur urgently needs cataract surgery under general anesthesia followed by the implantation of secondary intraocular lenses in both eyes. The doctor strongly believes that if treated now, Abdur has a high chance of gaining functional vision, allowing him to grow, learn, and live like any other healthy child. Early surgery will help him develop his visual pathways, recognize faces, play, and eventually attend school. However, if his condition is left untreated, Abdur will face lifelong blindness, severe developmental challenges, and complete dependency on others for the rest of his life. The cost of the required surgery is BDT 81,000, an amount far beyond what this struggling family can afford. With their unstable income, lack of proper housing, and responsibility for a large family, it is impossible for them to arrange such an amount.
