One-month-old Sayan Al Mahi is a gentle and much-loved baby whose parents and grandparents cherish every small smile and movement, dreaming of a healthy future for him. His father, Parvez Hossain, works as an electrician helper earning only BDT 6,500 per month, while his mother Munia Akter stays home to care for Sayan, leaving the family in a small tin house with grandparents Abul Hossain Sheikh and Bulu Begum and no financial savings. After surviving jaundice and intensive NICU care, Sayan was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity in both eyes at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital. Without urgent Anti-VEGF treatment costing BDT 18,000, he faces the risk of permanent blindness and lifelong disability. The family learned about Helpster Charity from Nasima Akhter, counselor at Mazharul Haque BNSB Hospital, and now hopes for support to save their baby’s eyesight and future.

Sayan Al Mahi, a 1-month-old baby boy, was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that posed a serious risk to her developing vision. Immediate treatment was necessary to prevent long-term damage, and he received Anti-VEGF injections administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The procedure was carried out with great care, and his condition was closely observed through regular follow-up visits. He responded positively to the treatment, with gradual improvement seen in his retinal condition. The abnormal blood vessel growth has now been brought under control. His retinal health is improving steadily, giving hope for normal vision development. According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, baby Sayan requires immediate Anti-VEGF (Avastin) injections in both eyes to halt the abnormal blood vessel growth and protect his retina. They have emphasized that early treatment is critical — the injections can restore and preserve Sayan’s vision, allowing his eyes to develop normally. The prognosis is excellent if the injections are given promptly, followed by regular check-ups and monitoring. However, if the treatment is delayed or unaffordable, the abnormal vessels may continue to grow, leading to scarring, retinal detachment, and irreversible blindness. The doctors are hopeful that with timely support, baby Sayan can grow up with healthy vision and lead a bright, independent future.
