Background
Baby Sayem Ahmed, a 2-month-old cheerful boy from a poor farming family in Comilla, is fighting for his life due to severe respiratory distress and infantile heart failure. His father, a small farmer, earns barely enough to feed the family, making it impossible to afford the costly PICU care and life-saving treatment Sayem urgently needs. Despite his fragile health, Sayem remains responsive and calm in his parents’ arms, showing remarkable strength for such a young child. Without immediate treatment, his condition could rapidly worsen, leading to respiratory failure or cardiac arrest. The family, filled with love and hope, is praying for timely medical support so their little boy can survive and one day grow into the bright, healthy child they dream of.
Medical history
Baby Sayem was admitted to Al-Manar Hospital in Dhaka on 17/10/2025 with severe cough for 2 days, respiratory distress for 2 days history of convulsion at day 2 of birth and history of repeated RTI On admission diagnosed as Pneumonia with IHF with Congenital Heart Disease (VSD). He was treated in the PICU with oxygen, medicines, and careful monitoring for four days and shifted to the ward and stayed for 3 days. The doctors worked hard to control his pneumonia and support his weak heart. After a few days of treatment, Sayem started to breathe better and became more active. He was discharged in stable condition with medicines and advice for regular follow-up checkups on 23/10/2025
Prognosis
Baby Sayem Ahmed requires immediate admission to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for management of severe respiratory distress complicated by Infantile Heart Failure (IHF). He needs oxygen therapy, intravenous antibiotics, and regular investigations to stabilize his breathing and support heart function. With timely and appropriate treatment, his condition is expected to improve, allowing a gradual transition from intensive care to the general ward. Early intervention will help prevent further cardiorespiratory complications and promote healthy development. However, if left untreated, the combination of IHF and severe respiratory infection could lead to respiratory failure, circulatory collapse, or even death, making urgent PICU care essential to save his life.
