Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About severe malaria
Severe malaria is a life-threatening form of malaria, most commonly caused by Plasmodium falciparum, and occurs when the infection leads to serious complications affecting vital organs. It presents with high persistent fever, severe anemia, jaundice, confusion or coma (cerebral malaria), breathing difficulty, low urine output, and sometimes convulsions. The disease progresses rapidly and can result in multi-organ failure or death if not treated promptly. Diagnosis is confirmed by blood tests showing a high parasite load. Management requires urgent hospitalization, intravenous antimalarial drugs such as artesunate, fluids, blood transfusions when needed, and supportive care. Early treatment greatly improves survival and reduces the risk of long-term complications.

Background
Jothan is the 2nd child among 3 siblings, he is 4 years old, he goes to a private primary school together with his sister. The father is a civil servant and the mother is a house wife. The apartment is owned by the parents where there are 3 rooms and single toilet. The patient presented with high-grade fever, joint pains, loss of appetite, and postprandial vomiting. Home treatment failed, and he later had two seizure episodes, prompting hospital care. On examination, he was acutely ill, dehydrated, lethargic, and febrile (40°C) with mild jaundice. Due to financial challenges, the parents sought help through Helpster Charity and brought him to Wholecare Hospital. Upon presentation at our hospital and after evaluation, he was diagnosed with Severe Malaria immediate treatment was initiated.
Medical history
Jothan a years old male child presented with symptoms of malaria, temperature was high which made the medical personnels attend to him immediately. He was admitted and diagnosed with severe malaria, treatment commenced with injection antimalarials and other supportive care. Patient did well and was discharged with some take home orals and was scheduled for follow-up. The family are grateful for the medical support by Helpster Charity team.
Prognosis
The prognosis of severe malaria depends on how quickly treatment begins. With prompt diagnosis and intensive hospital care using intravenous antimalarial drugs like artesunate, most patients can recover fully. However, delays in treatment greatly increase the risk of death or complications such as coma, severe anemia, kidney failure, or long-term neurological damage. Children, pregnant women, and people with low immunity are most at risk for poor outcomes. Early intervention significantly improves survival and recovery chances.
