Baby Taharima Islam, a one-month-old premature infant from Sahatoli village, Chandpur, has been diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a serious condition that could cause permanent blindness if left untreated. Her father, Md. Salauddin Gazi, a small-scale farmer earning only 8,500 Taka per month, struggles to provide for his wife Rokeya Begum, their three school-going children — Sultana (10), Nabila (16), and Sahabuddin (21) — and his elderly, disabled father, making it impossible to afford the BDT 18,000 required for Taharima’s urgent eye treatment. Despite her fragile health, Taharima is a gentle and resilient baby, bringing hope and joy to her family. Without immediate medical care, she risks losing her sight forever, which would shatter her parents’ dreams of seeing her grow up healthy and happy. The family is now praying for timely support so their little girl can see the world and the faces of those who love her most.

To control the abnormal development of retinal blood vessels, Anti-VEGF injections were administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment was performed with great care, and her condition was carefully monitored through regular follow-up visits. Taharima responded positively to the injections, showing gradual improvement in her retinal health. The abnormal blood vessel growth has now been successfully controlled. Her retinal condition has improved significantly, giving hope for healthy visual development. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, baby Taharima requires urgent Anti-VEGF (Avastin) injections in both eyes to prevent further progression of ROP. The doctors are confident that with immediate treatment and regular follow-up care, Taharima’s eyesight can be fully restored, giving her the opportunity to lead a normal and healthy life. However, they have also warned that any delay in treatment could lead to irreversible retinal damage and permanent blindness. The doctors have expressed hope that with proper medical support, Taharima’s vision can be saved, ensuring she grows up seeing her parents, siblings, and the beautiful world around her.
