Lima Akther, a 20-year-old kind and cheerful young woman, lives with her husband and family in a small tin house where only four people share a modest life. Her husband, recently unemployed and once earning just 8,000 BDT per month, is struggling to provide even the basics, leaving them unable to afford medical expenses. Now in her first pregnancy, Lima faces a serious complication — premature rupture of membranes (PROM) with oligohydramnios — that requires urgent hospital care. Despite her calm and hopeful nature, the family’s poverty prevents her from getting the treatment she needs. Without timely medical intervention, both Lima and her unborn baby risk infection, preterm birth, or even death, turning a young mother’s dream into tragedy.
Medical history
Lima Akther, a gynecology patient, was admitted on 17.12.2025 at 38 weeks of pregnancy with pain, complicated by a fetal distress. On 17.12.2025, she successfully underwent a cesarean operation and gave birth to a healthy baby. Both mother and baby remained stable and were discharged on 20.12.2025 with proper advice. The patient and her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Helpster, the dedicated volunteers, Abdullah Hospital, and Dr. Nusaiba Tasnim for their kind support and excellent care throughout the process.
Prognosis
The doctor’s prognosis for Lima Akter is positive with timely surgical intervention. A caesarean section is recommended to safely deliver the baby and prevent complications from premature rupture of membranes (PROM) and oligohydramnios, which can endanger both mother and child. With prompt treatment, the risks of infection, fetal distress, and preterm complications can be minimized, ensuring a healthy outcome. However, if left untreated, the condition could lead to severe infection, umbilical cord compression, or even stillbirth.
