Background
Most. Shakila Akter, a shy yet responsible young woman, lives with her husband, two children, and elderly in-laws in temporary shelter conditions. Her husband works as a farmer on others’ land, earning only 5,000 taka per month — barely enough to provide food and basic necessities for the six-member family. Now 38 weeks pregnant, Shakila has been diagnosed with oligohydramnios, a serious condition that puts both her and her unborn baby at high risk. Without timely medical intervention, the baby could suffer from distress or stillbirth, and Shakila’s own life could be in danger during delivery. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a leaflet in their camp, giving them a ray of hope for life-saving assistance during this critical time.
Medical history
Shakila, who was 38 weeks pregnant, was admitted on 25.09.2025 with severe lower abdominal pain, low fetal movement, per vaginal watery discharge, and fatigue. She was diagnosed with oligohydramnios, a condition that required urgent attention to ensure the safety of both mother and baby. She underwent a successful operation, and both she and her baby remained safe. During her hospital stay, she received careful medical management, including monitoring, medication, and supportive nursing care to aid recovery. With timely treatment and continuous attention from the medical team, Shakila’s condition steadily improved. She responded well to the care provided and was able to recover comfortably. She was discharged on 28.09.2025 in good health, along with her baby.
Prognosis
The doctor has advised a Lower Uterine Cesarean Section (LUCS) under spinal anesthesia (SAB) as the safest option for Shakila. This timely surgical procedure is crucial to prevent complications arising from severe oligohydramnios, such as fetal distress, lack of oxygen, or stillbirth. With proper medical management and a successful operation, both Shakila and her baby have a strong chance of recovery and good health. However, without surgical intervention, the risks to both mother and child would be extremely high due to the insufficient amniotic fluid.
