Joyline is the second-born child in her family and has an older brother who is in pre-primary one. Her mother sells mangoes to supplement her father’s income from casual jobs. The family lives in her grandparents’ home. Joyline was brought to the facility by her parents with a history of fever, cough, runny nose, general body malaise, and pain on swallowing. She had previously been treated at a nearby health facility with no improvement. On examination, Joyline appeared ill, lethargic, febrile, and in mild respiratory distress. A laboratory test for malaria parasites was performed and returned negative. Based on clinical assessment, she was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and acute tonsillitis.

Joyline was admitted while feeling pain and there was sadness all over her phase. She responded well to the medication she was put on. A child who was lonely and could not play about suddenly became jovial and would smile whenever one visited the ward. When the reported no new complain and expressed her satisfaction with how the baby was cared for, and having completed the required dosage prescribed, she was allowed home fully recovered.

Joyline’s prognosis is favorable with prompt and appropriate treatment for severe pneumonia and acute tonsillitis. With antibiotics, supportive care, adequate hydration, and rest, she is expected to recover fully without long-term complications.
