Oligohydramnios is a serious pregnancy complication characterized by an unusually low amount of amniotic fluid, defined by ultrasound measurements of the largest pocket of amniotic fluid being less than 1 cm. Oligohydramnios in general is when the amniotic fluid volume is less than expected for the gestational age, with severe cases indicating a particularly low amount.

Background

Despite social and economic challenges, she remains patient and hopeful and manages household responsibilities, finding comfort in cooking. At 38 weeks of pregnancy, she developed continuous watery vaginal discharge and lower abdominal pain, and an ultrasound examination confirmed severe oligohydramnios, placing both mother and fetus at high risk. Without timely medical intervention, the baby faces risks such as fetal distress, infection, or stillbirth, while the mother is vulnerable to serious delivery-related complications. Kumari Purnima Rani was admitted to the hospital on November 02, 2025, with a diagnosis of severe oligohydramnios. On the same day, she had a successful cesarean section and gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Both mother and newborn were discharged on November 06, 2025, in good health.
