Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Status asthmaticus is a severe, prolonged asthma attack that does not respond to standard treatments such as inhalers or bronchodilators. It is a medical emergency because it can lead to respiratory failure if not treated promptly. Patients often present with extreme difficulty in breathing, persistent wheezing, low oxygen levels, and exhaustion. Bronchitis: Inflammation of the bronchial tubes, causing cough, mucus production, and breathing difficulties, often due to viral or bacterial infections, or exposure to pollutants. Both conditions require rest, hydration, and medical treatment if symptoms persist.

Background
Faith is a 20-year-old girl and an orphan living at a Children’s Home in Nairobi. She enjoys playing football and watching cartoons with the other children. The home relies entirely on well-wishers for food and daily needs. Faith was taken into the children’s home a few years ago after the only guardian she knew lost her job and could no longer care for her. The Children’s Home learned about Helpster Charity through a site visit by medical practitioners from Rheemah Hospital and later through Vincent, a Helpster volunteer. Faith had been well until three days ago, when she developed shortness of breath, a productive cough, chest pain, difficulty in breathing, wheezing, and generalized body malaise. Her breathing progressively became labored; she struggled to speak in full sentences, appeared visibly distressed, and had to sit upright to try and catch her breath. Her condition rapidly escalated into a medical emergency, as she was unable to breathe comfortably and showed signs of significant respiratory distress. Recognizing the urgency, Ruth, a volunteer at the children’s home, immediately rushed her to Rheemah Hospital for medical attention. Upon examination by the medical officer in charge, Faith was diagnosed with an acute asthmatic attack and acute bronchitis, and prompt treatment was initiated.
Medical history
Faith upon arrival to Rheemah Hospital presented with shortnes of breath,productive cough , chest pain and wheezing. Thorough examination and test done by medical officer in charge and he was diagnosed with asthmatic attack and Acute Bronchitis. Prompt treatment was done by giving i.v ceftriaxone 1g, i.v dexamethasone, Augmentin 1gm,Ascoril,Myospas tabs, seretide inhaler . Helpster charity covered his medical expenses thanks to this early intervention. A follow up call was made 3 days later and confirmed that she was responding well to treatment.
Prognosis
Following timely medical intervention, Faith’s prognosis is good. With appropriate treatment, close monitoring, and adherence to prescribed medications, she is expected to make a full recovery. Continued follow-up and proper asthma management will be essential to prevent future exacerbations and ensure long-term respiratory stability.
