Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Newton is the second-born in a family of three siblings; however, their youngest sibling passed away, leaving him and his older sister. His father died in 2007, and his mother passed away in 2011. Newton and his sister live with their maternal grandmother, though they occasionally visit their paternal grandmother. He is a shy boy in Grade 9 and aspires to become a teacher in the future. Newton presented with complaints of fatigue and poor appetite. Due to limited financial resources, he had been taking over-the-counter medications of unknown type. As his condition worsened, a community health provider advised him to visit the hospital for proper evaluation, informing him that an organization at the hospital assists underprivileged children with medical care.

Medical history

Newton received as was prescribed, upon improvement, he was discharged home to continue with his oral medication. He came back for follow up check up 3 days after discharge and it was confirmed that he is now doing well.

Prognosis

Newton received timely and appropriate medical management, and therefore he has a good chance of full recovery. Close monitoring is essential to watch for complications such as organ dysfunction. Since sepsis can progress rapidly, it is good that with Newton, it was recognized early and prompt treatment initiated.
