Exevior W., 7

Exevior is the sixth of eight children, living with his family in a low-income rural setting. The household struggles financially, and his mother works hard to support the children through casual labour, mainly taking on tasks like digging and washing clothes to provide food and meet their basic needs. Despite these challenges, Exevior is a dedicated student with strong ambitions. He dreams of becoming a teacher so he can uplift his family and create better opportunities for his siblings. In his spare time, he enjoys playing football with his friends, which keeps him active and brings him joy. Exevior was brought to our facility by his parents, having been referred by a Helpster Charity volunteer, because of a swelling in his left groin that had been present for several months. The swelling became more noticeable when he cried or coughed and would sometimes reduce spontaneously. His parents also reported that his right testicle frequently moved up into the groin and was not always visible in the scrotum. On examination, Exevior was generally well - he was not pale, jaundiced, or in distress. His chest and cardiovascular findings were normal. Abdominal examination showed a soft abdomen and a palpable left inguinal swelling consistent with a reducible hernia. The right testis was retractile and occasionally located in the groin, while the left testis was normally positioned. An ultrasound of the groin and scrotum confirmed a left inguinal hernia and a right retractile testis. He was scheduled for surgery. A day after Exevior had been reviewed, his condition suddenly worsened - he developed severe pain and discomfort in the groin, especially when bending, lifting, coughing, or even standing for short periods. The rapid escalation of pain made the situation an emergency, prompting the need for immediate surgical attention.

Exevior was brought in the facility by her parent with complains of; swelling in the left groin area that had been noticed for several months. The swelling would become more prominent when he cried or coughed and would occasionally reduce on its own. On examination,Abdominal examination revealed a soft abdomen with a palpable swelling in the left inguinal region, consistent with a reducible hernia, he was scheduled for surgery which was done successfully, after awhile he became stable and discharged on a good condition.

With surgery, his long-term prognosis is excellent - the risk of hernia recurrence or future testicular complications is minimal. The intervention will also improve his comfort, prevent future complications, and support normal testicular growth and development, ensuring a good quality of life. Prognosis is good.
