Background
Sume Akter is a kind, hardworking housewife who spends her time caring for her family and sewing katha, hoping only for a safe pregnancy and a healthy child. Her husband, Khalekujjaman Liton, works as a day laborer farmer on others’ land, earning just 6,000 Taka a month, which is barely enough to feed their four family members, including their elderly mother, Khaleda Begum. Living in a government shelter and still carrying the pain of losing their first baby, the family has no savings and cannot afford sudden medical expenses. Now, at 35 weeks of pregnancy, doctors have advised an urgent cesarean section due to complications and a breech baby. Without this treatment, both Sume and her unborn child face serious risk, and the family fears another irreversible loss they may not survive emotionally or physically.
Medical history
Sume Akter came with her third pregnancy at 35 weeks and 4 days, presenting with a breech position. She was admitted on 10.11.2025 for urgent management. A successful caesarean section was performed to ensure the safety of both mother and baby. After the surgery, she received proper post-operative medical care, including essential medications, continuous monitoring, and attentive nursing support. Her recovery progressed well, and both she and her baby remained stable throughout her stay. Sume Akter was discharged on 13.11.2025 in good condition, with a smooth recovery and a healthy baby.
Prognosis
The recommended treatment for this case is a Lower Uterine Cesarean Section under SAB (Spinal Anesthesia). This is the safest and most effective method to deliver the baby promptly and prevent further complications. With timely surgical intervention, the baby is expected to recover well and grow up healthy. However, if the delivery is delayed or left untreated, the baby may face serious risks such as cord prolapse, obstructed labor, intrauterine fetal death (IUFD), or fetal head entrapment, which can result in permanent brain damage or even death. The mother is also at risk of life-threatening infections and other severe complications.
