Zainab is the last of mother's 4 children living in a small family house. Father is a security guard who struggles with his meagre salary to supply for the family. Mother is not gainfully employed. Zainab presented to our facility with complaints of 6 days history of refusal to feed, vomiting, fever, generalized body weakness, and mild body swelling. Mother also noticed patient to be having fast breathing. After thorough examination and investigations revealed severe decline in her PCV, malaria infection, and sepsis. Zainab was diagnosed with Severe Malaria with Anemia and Sepsis.

Zainab was admitted in our facility and managed as a case of Severe Malaria ( Severe Anaemia) R/O Sepsis. She had a sessioblood transfusion with sedimented cells. She was also given her complete dosages of Antimalarials, Antibiotics and analgesics. She was also rehydrated with IV fluids. As the treatment progressed, she responded well as evidenced by resolving of her admitting symptoms. She was then discharged home with oral medications following the improvement of her condition.

Zainab has severe malaria, with anemia and sepsis putting her in a critical health condition. With appropriate and timely blood transfusion, IV and oral antimalarial and antibiotics together with other supportive care, this patient has a good chance of survival. However, delay or inappropriate treatment can lead to further severe presentations which may be fatal.
