Triziah N., 5

Triziah is a 5-year old girl, the fourth born in a family of four children. Her parents are peasant farmers who depend entirely on casual labour to provide for their basic needs. The family lives in a severely deprived rural setting, in a poorly constructed house without access to safe drinking water or adequate sanitation. Her mother reported that Triziah had been well until a few hours before admission. At around 11.00am on the day of admission, she noticed that the child had per vaginal bleeding and was in significant pain. It was later revealed that Triziah had been sexually assaulted by a person known to her that same day while she was on her way to her grandmother's home. On medical examination, Triziah was found to have sustained a severe vaginal tear measuring about 4cm, which required urgent surgical repair in the operating theater. The situation was deeply distressing for the family, both emotionally and financially. Triziah's parents had never heard of helpster Charity before. It was during their time at the hospital , after all emergency procedures had been completed, that the social worker enganged them. When it became evident that they were not going to be able to afford payment of the hospital bill, they were enrolled for assistance under Helpster Charity.

Trizah sustained a vaginal tear, likely during childbirth, which caused significant pain and bleeding. She was promptly taken to the hospital, where doctors carefully assessed the extent of the tear and controlled the bleeding. The wound was thoroughly cleaned to prevent infection and then surgically repaired using sterile sutures under appropriate anesthesia. She was given antibiotics to prevent infection, pain medication for comfort, and advised on proper hygiene and rest to promote healing. With the support of Helpster, Trizah was able to receive timely and quality medical care without financial strain. During her recovery, she was closely monitored to ensure proper wound healing and to prevent complications. Over time, her pain reduced, the wound healed well, and she regained her strength. She is now stable and recovering comfortably at home.

Trisiah’s prognosis is guarded but hopeful. Following prompt surgical repair of the vaginal tear, her physical recovery is expected to be good with proper wound care, antibiotics to prevent infection, pain management, and close follow-up. In young children, soft tissues generally heal well if there are no complications such as infection or delayed treatment. However, beyond the physical injury, Trisiah may also experience emotional and psychological trauma due to the assault. Early psychosocial support, counseling, and a safe and protective home environment will be essential for her emotional recovery and long-term well-being. With appropriate medical care, emotional support, and safeguarding measures, Trisiah has a strong chance of making a full physical recovery and continuing her normal growth and development.
