Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About blood
Bacteremia: This is the presence of bacteria in the bloodstream. It can be serious because bacteria in the blood can spread quickly to other organs and cause severe infections if not treated promptly. Severe malaria: This is a life-threatening form of malaria caused by the Plasmodium falciparum parasite. It occurs when the infection affects vital organs, leading to complications such as anemia, cerebral malaria (affecting the brain), breathing problems, or organ failure. It requires urgent medical attention.

Background
Glen, a Grade One pupil and the firstborn in his family, lives with his parents and younger sister, who has not yet started school. The family resides in a rental house and relies on casual work for their livelihood - the father weeds sugarcane while the mother does house chores such as washing clothes for neighbors. Glen is a cheerful boy who dreams of becoming a teacher and enjoys playing football. He was brought to the facility by his mother with complaints of general body weakness, convulsions, fever, and vomiting that began two days earlier. This was his second episode, and since he did not improve after receiving a herbal remedy at home, his mother urgently sought medical care. The mother had learned about a charity organization that supports patients at this hospital and brought Glen with the hope that, despite not having any money, he would still receive the necessary medical care.
Medical history
Glen was admitted to the hospital and remained in the ward for three days, during which he received comprehensive treatment for his conditions. He was administered antimalarial therapy, including injectable artesunate, as well as antibacterial treatment with ceftriaxone to address the bacteremia. His response to the medications was very positive, with a steady improvement in his symptoms, including reduction in fever, convulsions, and general malaise. Following close monitoring by the medical team and ensuring his condition had stabilized, Glen was discharged home. A follow-up phone call later confirmed that he had fully recovered and was back to his usual playful and energetic self, showing no lingering signs of illness. The prompt treatment and proper medical care were crucial in ensuring his full recovery and preventing potential complications from severe malaria and bacteremia.
Prognosis
The prognosis for Glen, after being diagnosed with bacteremia and severe malaria, is generally favorable with the now prompt and appropriate treatment. Glen is expected to recover, though his condition requires careful observation to prevent complications.
