Severe oligohydramnios in general is when the amniotic fluid volume is less than expected for the gestational age, with severe cases indicating a particularly low amount

Background
Nodi Khatun is a first-time mother at 38 weeks of pregnancy who has been abandoned by her husband and now lives with her parents and brother’s family in a tin-made house. The household consists of six members and depends solely on her brother’s monthly income of BDT 6,000, which is barely sufficient to cover daily necessities, leaving no capacity to pay for medical treatment. She learned about Helpster Charity through a community health worker, Saleh Apa, who connected her with Bablu Abdullah for support. Nodi is currently suffering from oligohydramnios, causing lower abdominal pain, reduced fetal movement, and frequent urination, a condition that requires urgent medical intervention. Without timely treatment, both the patient and her unborn child face serious risks, including fetal distress and life-threatening delivery complications.
Medical history
Nodi Khatun was admitted to the hospital on November 20, 2025, with a diagnosis of severe oligohydramnios and post dated. On the same day, she had a successful cesarean section and gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Both mother and newborn were discharged on November 24, 2025, in good health. Her brother and mother came to the hospital to receive her and their child. The family expressed their gratitude to Helpster, Central Clinic and Bablu Abdullah for their treatment and support. Her brother was especially thankful for the financial assistance provided by Helpster.
Prognosis
The doctor recommends an urgent cesarean section for Nodi Khatun to prevent life-threatening complications for both her and her baby. With severe oligohydramnios could result in fetal distress, stillbirth, or serious maternal complications such as uterine rupture or placental issues. A timely C-section offers the best chance of delivering a healthy baby and protecting the mother’s life. If the procedure is performed promptly Nodi and her child are expected to recover well, with significantly reduced risks of morbidity or mortality. Without this intervention, both mother and baby face a critical situation that could have irreversible consequences.
