Background
Sumaiya Akter is an 18-year-old first-time mother from an extremely poor family, married to a day laborer whose irregular income barely supports their daily needs, while her elderly in-laws depend entirely on them. Gentle and hardworking, Sumaiya spends her days caring for her family and doing household chores, dreaming only of a safe delivery. When her pregnancy passed 37+ weeks and the baby remained in a dangerous breech position, the family could not afford a life-saving C-section and waited helplessly at home as her labor pain worsened for days. Without urgent treatment, both Sumaiya and her unborn child faced a high risk of death due to prolonged obstructed labor.
Medical history
The patient, Sumaiya Akter was admitted to City Clinic on 22th November 2025. A successful cesarean section was performed the same day, and she delivered a healthy 2.4 kg male baby. Both mother and child progressed well and were discharged on 26th November 2025 with proper postnatal advice. The patient and her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Helpster, the dedicated volunteers, and City Clinic for their kind support and care throughout the treatment.
Prognosis
The doctor has advised a Lower Uterine Cesarean Section (LUCS) as the safest treatment option for Sumaiya Akter's delivery. With this procedure, both mother and baby are expected to have a stable and healthy outcome, minimizing the risks associated with breech presentation. The surgery will help prevent life-threatening complications such as uterine rupture, fetal distress, or prolonged labor. If the condition is left untreated and a vaginal delivery is attempted, both Sumaiya and her baby could face severe complications, including the risk of losing the baby or endangering the mother’s life. Timely surgical intervention is therefore critical for a safe and successful delivery.
