The newborn is suffering from multiple serious conditions, including Perinatal Asphyxia (HIE-II), meaning his brain did not receive enough oxygen at birth, putting him at risk of long-term neurological damage. He is also battling congenital pneumonia, Meconium Aspiration Syndrome (MAS), and Respiratory Distress Syndrome, all of which severely affect his ability to breathe and require intensive medical support. Additionally, doctors suspect osteogenesis imperfecta, a fragile bone disease that may explain the deformities in his limbs. Together, these life-threatening complications make his condition extremely critical and demand continuous NICU care for survival.

Background
Hazera Begum’s newborn son entered the world at just 36 weeks, fragile and fighting for breath, with no immediate cry and visible deformities in his tiny limbs. His father, a van puller earning only 8,000 BDT a month, struggles even to feed the family, making the high cost of NICU care impossible for them to afford. After being rushed from Dhaka Medical College to Olympus Hospital, doctors diagnosed the baby with HIE-II, congenital pneumonia, MAS, and suspected osteogenesis imperfecta, all of which require urgent, continuous treatment to keep him alive. Without this critical care, his condition could deteriorate rapidly, leading to permanent disability or even loss of life. Desperate and heartbroken, the family now seeks support from Helpster Charity to give their fragile newborn a fighting chance at survival
Medical history
The patient, Baby of Hazera Begum, aged 5 days, was admitted to Olympus Hospital NICU on 22 November 2025 at 11:17 PM with severe respiratory distress and diagnoses including HIE-II, congenital pneumonia, MAS, and suspected osteogenesis imperfecta. He received continuous NICU support with oxygen therapy, ventilation, and required medications under close medical supervision. On 26 November 2025 at around 8:00 AM, his condition deteriorated sharply, and despite medical interventions and CPR, he was declared dead at 9:20 AM due to irreversible cardio-respiratory failure. The family expressed their appreciation to Helpster Charity for the assistance provided during the treatment period.
Prognosis
Dr. Shojeadul Hoque Anoto explained that immediate NICU care—including oxygen support, antibiotics, and continuous monitoring—is essential for the baby’s survival due to his multiple life-threatening conditions. With timely and consistent treatment, the child has a chance to stabilize and gradually improve, though long-term recovery remains uncertain because of the severity of HIE-II and the suspected fragile bone disorder. Early intervention may help prevent further brain injury, reduce respiratory complications, and protect his delicate bones from additional harm. However, without urgent treatment, the baby could face rapid deterioration, including severe brain damage, respiratory failure, permanent disability, or even death. Continuous NICU support is therefore critical to give him any hope of survival and a better quality of life.
