Emmanuel Joel O., 8

Emmanuel is the second-born in a family of three children. He is a quiet and cheerful boy who enjoys playing football with his friends. He is currently in Grade 2 and dreams of becoming an architect when he completes his studies. Emmanuel’s parents divorced a few years ago, and he now lives with his maternal grandmother. The grandmother and Emmanuel, along with his siblings, rely on his mother as the family’s primary breadwinner, who supports them by doing house chores, such as washing clothes for neighbors. Emmanuel had been generally healthy until the a few days ago, when he complained of a headache during the day. His grandmother gave him herbal medicine, but by evening he developed a high fever, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. Despite continued use of herbal remedies, his condition worsened, and he began having seizures. He was then brought to the hospital, where laboratory tests were conducted and treatment was initiated promptly for amoebic dysentery and malaria. Emmanuel is currently under medical care, responding to treatment.

Emmanuel was received at the facility sicklooking.He was assesed and after laboratory investigations,a diagnosis of malaria and amoebiasis was made.Ge was commenced on intravenous medications and showed good prognosis upon day three of treatment.He was later discharged home on oral medications and scheduled for a follow up in 7 days time to ascertain his full recovery upon completion of medication.

With prompt and appropriate medical treatment, Emmanuel is expected to recover fully from both severe malaria and amoebic dysentery. Early intervention reduces the risk of complications such as severe dehydration, organ damage, or persistent weakness. His recovery will depend on continued adherence to medications, adequate hydration, and nutritional support. With proper care, he is likely to regain strength soon.
