Fridah W., 17

Fridah is a 17-year-old Form Three student at a rural secondary school and the third-born in a family of six. She fell ill three days after giving birth. Her father is a small-scale farmer earning an average of about 2,500, which barely supports the family. They live in a rented two-room house and share a single bathroom and pit latrine. The family relies on a community borehole for water, though during the dry season they are often forced to purchase water. Fridah enjoys playing netball and dreams of becoming a teacher in the future. Three days postpartum, Fridah developed a persistent productive cough, fever, restlessness, severe chest pain, and shortness of breath. Due to financial constraints, her family was unable to purchase medication, and her condition continued to deteriorate. A community health volunteer later visited the home and found Fridah in obvious distress - coughing persistently, sweating heavily, struggling to breathe, and clutching her chest in pain. The volunteer advised that she be taken urgently to Mechimeru Health Centre for medical care. Because of the family’s financial challenges, Fridah’s treatment was supported by Helpster Charity, enabling her to receive the urgent medical attention she needed.

Fridah was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and admitted to the hospital for treatment and close monitoring. She received appropriate medications, including antibiotics, antiviral treatment, and pain relief, and responded well to treatment. Once her condition had stabilized, she was discharged to continue recovering at home. During a follow-up phone call, Fridah confirmed that she was doing well and had continued to improve since leaving the hospital. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Helpster Charity Organization for supporting her treatment and enabling her to access quality medical care.

Fridah experienced severe pneumonia, a critical condition that requires prompt and intensive medical care. Early intervention and appropriate treatment were essential in supporting her recovery. She is receiving a combination of antibiotics and antiviral medication, and her condition is closely monitored throughout her treatment to assess her progress and adjust care as needed. Thanks to timely management and continuous monitoring, Fridah outcome is improving significantly.
