Eight-year-old Nadia Islam is a gentle and creative child who loves drawing, helping her mother Taslima, and caring for her little sister Nafisa, while her brother Tawhidul studies beside her in their small tin-made home in Salehpur. Her father, Babul Miah, earns only about 8,000 taka per month as a farmer working on others’ land, which barely supports their five-member family and elderly grandmother, leaving no savings for medical emergencies. When doctors at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital diagnosed cataract in her right eye, the family was heartbroken knowing surgery is urgently needed but financially out of reach. Without timely treatment, Nadia may gradually lose vision in the affected eye, harming her education, confidence, and dream of becoming a nurse. After learning about Helpster from Nasima Akhter, a counselor in the hospital’s Pediatric Unit, her parents are now seeking support to save their daughter’s sight and future.

Nadia Islam, a 8 year-old girl, required cataract surgery in her right eye as the cataract was causing blurred vision and making it difficult for her to study and carry out daily activities. The surgery was successfully performed under anesthesia by Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sk, Chief Consultant of the Hospital, ensuring a safe and smooth procedure. Throughout the treatment process, Nadia was carefully monitored by the medical team to ensure proper recovery. The surgery went well without complications, and she responded positively after the operation. Gradually, her discomfort reduced and her eye began to heal properly. Her visual acuity has improved significantly, and she can now see clearly. This improvement has greatly helped her return to her normal activities and studies. According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant of the hospital, Nadia urgently requires Cataract Surgery under General Anesthesia, followed by the implantation of a Secondary Intraocular Lens to restore vision in her right eye. The doctor believes that if treated in time, Nadia can regain almost normal vision and return to her studies with confidence and comfort. However, delaying treatment could permanently damage her visual development, making it extremely difficult for her to learn, interact socially, or live independently in the future. The estimated treatment cost is BDT 40,500, an amount far beyond what Nadia’s family can afford. With their limited income, ongoing household expenses, and the responsibility of caring for three children and an elderly grandmother, her parents are unable to arrange the required funds.
