Two-month-old Tarif Hossain is a gentle and fragile baby whose quiet responses to his parents bring comfort to his mother Tanjina and father Tarek as they care for him and his two premature brothers, Shihab and Minhaj. After spending more than a month in the hospital fighting to survive, doctors have now found a serious condition in both of his eyes that requires urgent treatment to prevent permanent blindness. His father earns only 11,000 Taka per month as a sales helper, which must provide for seven family members, including Tarif’s elderly grandparents, leaving no savings after covering the heavy medical costs and daily needs of three newborns. The family is already struggling to afford proper nutrition and rent in their small home in Dhaka, making further treatment impossible without support. They learned about Helpster Charity through Helpster Volunteer ABM Alamgir and now humbly seek assistance, as without immediate care Tarif and his brothers may lose their eyesight forever.

Tarif Hossain, a 1-month-old baby boy, was admitted for urgent management of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. After thorough evaluation, he received Anti-VEGF injection on 27.11.2025, administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment process was carefully planned and executed, with close monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness. During his stay, his response to the treatment was positive, showing encouraging signs of recovery. The abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels has now been successfully controlled. His retinal condition has improved significantly, and doctors are hopeful that he will develop clear vision in the future. He was discharged in stable condition with advice for regular follow-up, and heartfelt thanks go to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for making this life-changing treatment possible.

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, the babies urgently need Anti-VEGF injections (such as Avastin) in both eyes, followed by regular monitoring to stop abnormal vessel growth and allow the retina to develop normally. Doctors state that with timely treatment, the chances of preserving vision are very good, giving the children the opportunity to grow up with normal sight and development. However, if treatment is delayed, the condition may progress rapidly toward permanent blindness. The required treatment and follow-up will cost BDT 18,000, an amount impossible for the family to arrange while struggling to meet basic living expenses. Immediate support can save the eyesight of these three fragile newborn brothers and give them the chance for a healthy future.
