Background
Manha Islam is a fragile and precious one-month-old baby girl whose gentle presence brings hope and love to her family despite their difficult circumstances. Her father, Md. Sumon Islam, earns only around 8,000 BDT per month as an office assistant, which is not enough to support the five-member family and cover the high cost of her urgent eye treatment. After fighting for her life in the NICU, Manha is now at risk of losing her eyesight due to Retinopathy of Prematurity, leaving her parents deeply worried and helpless. Without timely treatment, she may become permanently blind, affecting her ability to live a normal and independent life in the future. After learning about Helpster Charity through a hospital counselor, her family now holds onto hope to save their daughter’s vision and give her a chance to see the world.
Medical history
Manha Islam, a 1-month-old baby girl, was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can seriously affect vision if not treated promptly. To manage the abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels, Anti-VEGF injections were administered on 20.11.2025 by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment was carried out with great care, and she was closely monitored during follow-up visits. She responded well to the injections, showing steady improvement in her retinal condition. The abnormal blood vessel growth is now under control, and her retina is gradually stabilizing. Doctors remain hopeful that she will develop clear vision as she grows. Prognosis
According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Manha urgently requires Anti-VEGF injections (such as Avastin) in both eyes, followed by routine follow-up examinations to ensure healthy retinal development. Doctors explain that if treatment is provided quickly, her vision can be preserved, allowing her to grow and develop like other children. However, delay in treatment could result in irreversible blindness. The required treatment and follow-up will cost BDT 18,000, which is beyond the family’s financial ability to manage.
