Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background
One-month-old Abdullah Ayan, a premature baby boy, quietly responds to his parents’ voices, bringing hope to his small family in Lakshmipur. His father, Md. Farhad, earns only about BDT 7,500 a month working in a mill, supporting Ayan, his young mother Morium, and his elderly grandfather who is too old to work, leaving the family unable to afford costly medical care. After already spending what little they had on Ayan’s early hospital treatment, they now cannot manage the urgent treatment needed for his eyes. Without timely care, Ayan may lose his vision and grow up unable to see the loving faces of his parents and grandfather. A counselor from the pediatric unit of Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital told the family about Helpster Charity, and they now hope for support to protect their baby boy’s sight and future
Medical history
Abdullah Ayan, a 1-month-old baby boy, was admitted for urgent management of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. After thorough evaluation, he received Anti-VEGF injection on 20.11.2025, administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment process was carefully planned and executed, with close monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness. During his stay, his response to the treatment was positive, showing encouraging signs of recovery. The abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels has now been successfully controlled. His retinal condition has improved significantly, and doctors are hopeful that he will develop clear vision in the future. He was discharged in stable condition with advice for regular follow-up, and heartfelt thanks go to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for making this life-changing treatment possible.
Prognosis
According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Ayan urgently requires Anti-VEGF injections (such as Avastin) in both eyes, followed by regular follow-up examinations to allow proper retinal development. Doctors confirm that timely treatment offers a strong chance to preserve his vision, enabling him to grow and develop like other children. However, delaying treatment could result in irreversible blindness. The total treatment and follow-up cost is BDT 18,000, an amount beyond the family’s financial capacity.
