Mustapha began experiencing a small soft swelling in his left groin about eight months ago. The swelling gradually increased in size and occasionally extended into the scrotum, especially when he was playing, straining, or coughing. His parents noticed that the swelling becomes more prominent in the evenings but reduces when he lies down. Over the last few weeks, he started complaining of mild discomfort in the groin area during physical activity. Although the swelling has been reducible, there have been episodes where it becomes firm and takes longer to go back inside. These features are consistent with a left inguino-scrotal hernia, which occurs when abdominal contents slip through the inguinal canal down into the scrotum. The condition carries a risk of incarceration or strangulation, especially in children, which makes surgical repair the definitive treatment. Elective herniotomy is planned, pending approval from the Helpster Charity Foundation.

Mustapha Sani is a 12-year-old boy from a simple and hardworking family. He is an active primary school pupil who enjoys playing football and helping his father with small tasks around the house. He has generally been healthy, with no chronic illnesses and no previous surgeries. His parents describe him as energetic and responsible, always eager to participate in school and community activities. Medical history
Mustapha Sani, a 12-year-old male, presented with 8 months history of progressive enlarging left inguino scrotal swelling, occasionally accompanied by pain and mild obstruction. After thorough evaluation, he was diagnosed with left inguinoscrotal hernia. He underwent successful hernial repair surgery without immediate complications. Following a 3-day hospital stay for close monitoring and post-operative care, Mustapha,recovered well and was discharged home with a scheduled follow-up appointment for 1 week. He has since fully recovered and resumed regular activities. We appreciate the timely intervention by Helpster and the UMD Medical team.
Prognosis
Mustapha has a large left inguino-scrotal hernia that necessitates surgical intervention to prevent potential complications like intestinal obstruction, strangulation, and gangrene. Timely hernia repair surgery can significantly improve his condition and overall health outlook with good prognosis.
