Background
Afsana Khatun is an 18-year-old young woman who lives with her husband Somesh Islam and his elderly parents, Bahar Uddin and Komola Khatun, in a small tin-shed house with a mud floor, where daily life is a constant struggle. She is gentle, hardworking, and manages the household despite illness, while Somesh earns only 5,000 BDT per month from a small vegetable shop, which barely covers food and basic needs for the four family members. With no savings or additional income, the family is unable to afford the cost of surgery and hospital care. If Afsana does not receive timely treatment, her appendicular lump could worsen, leading to rupture, severe infection, or even a life-threatening condition. Her illness puts the entire family at risk, as Somesh’s limited income and his parents’ old age leave them with no other support to face such a medical emergency.
Medical history
Afsana Khatun became deeply distressed as her lower abdominal pain continued to worsen, eventually forcing her family to take her to the hospital for urgent care. After careful examination and investigations, doctors diagnosed her with an appendicular lump, indicating a serious infection around the appendix. The medical team explained that immediate treatment was necessary to control the infection and prevent dangerous complications. Afsana was admitted and started on proper medical management under close supervision. Gradually, her pain has begun to ease, and her condition is stabilizing with ongoing treatment. Although she remains weak and needs further care, she is now more comfortable and hopeful. With continued treatment and planned surgery, Afsana looks forward to recovering fully and returning to a healthy, normal life.
Prognosis
The doctor’s prognosis is that an appendicectomy (surgical removal of the appendix) will remove the source of infection and relieve Afsana’s pain, allowing her to recover fully and return to her normal daily life.
