Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Ogunfunwa Taiwo Marvellous is 15 years old, and her mother has passed away. She is the second child in a family of four, and her father is a clergyman. She enjoys meeting new people, listening to songs, and her dream is to become a teacher. Taiwo has been experiencing recurring abdominal pain for the past three months. At first, she was given medications like Tab Hyoscine and Flagyl at home, but her pain got worse on October 24, 2023. She couldn't stand up straight, and she also experienced vomiting, fever, and a headache.

Medical history

Taiwo was treated as an emergency case of acute appendicitis with rupture. The time surgery was performed the appendix was already bursted and contaminated the abdominal cavity. It was an intensive surgery but with a good prognosis for a recovery.

Prognosis

If acute appendicitis is not treated promptly, the appendix can burst, releasing bacteria and pus into the abdominal cavity. This can lead to a severe infection called peritonitis, which can be life-threatening. Instead of rupturing, the appendix can form a pocket of infection called an abscess. This can also lead to peritonitis and may require drainage or surgical intervention. The infection from a ruptured appendix can enter the bloodstream, causing septicemia (sepsis). This is a life-threatening condition that can affect multiple organs.
