Severe pneumonia is a serious lung infection where air sacs fill with fluid/pus, causing intense difficulty breathing, confusion (especially in elderly), very high fever, bluish lips/nails (due to low oxygen). Severe malaria occurs due to delayed treatment of uncomplicated malaria and is defined by clinical or laboratory evidence of vital organ dysfunction. Anemia is a problem of not having enough healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin to carry oxygen to the body's tissues

Background
Raylan is a six-month-old infant from a highly vulnerable household. His 20-year-old mother is unemployed, and the family lives in a single-room dwelling under very challenging socioeconomic conditions. The father, as the sole provider, relies on irregular menial jobs and occasional unskilled construction work, which are insufficient to consistently meet the family’s basic needs, including medical expenses. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a neighbor who had previously received assistance from the organization and advised them that the charity supports sick and underprivileged children at nearby health facilities. The mother reports that Raylan began experiencing diarrhea, which persisted for a couple of days. Hoping to help him, she initially gave him herbal medicine, but by the third day, his condition worsened - he developed difficulty in breathing and a high fever. Concerned, she immediately took him to the hospital. By the time they arrived at the hospital, Raylan was severely dehydrated and obtunded, prompting the medical team to rush him into resuscitation before taking a detailed history from his mother. He was later diagnosed with severe pneumonia, severe malaria and anaemia.
Medical history
Raylan presented to the hospital with hotness of the body, he had difficulty in breathing and had suffered episodes of diarrhoea.He was diagnosed with severe malaria, severe pneumonia and mild anemia. This conditions warranted admission where he was admitted to the wards. In the wards he was treated with IV Artesunate, given IV xpen , ORS, ZnSO4 , paracetamol among other drugs. He retained these drugs and eventually he began to feel better. He was later discharged on orals and a follow up clinic date booked for him.
Prognosis
After prompt diagnosis and initiation of treatment for severe pneumonia, severe malaria, and anemia, Ryan is bound to respond well to the medications and supportive care. With continued adherence to prescribed therapies and close monitoring, the prognosis is favorable, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
