Patrick is a 7-year-old boy with a quiet resilience that often surprises those who meet him. When his parents left in search of farm work in an unknown location, they did not anticipate how vulnerable he would become. For a period, Patrick lived alone - confused, hungry, and helpless - hoping they would return. His situation changed when a visitor came by the homestead and found him frightened but still trying to stay strong. Patrick has continued living with the visitor who rescued him, now a true Good Samaritan. After the situation was reported to the police, and it was confirmed that Patrick had been living alone, the authorities recorded the necessary details and requested the Good Samaritan to take care of him for the time being. Patrick dreams of going to school so he can learn to read and write. He hopes to grow up and help others, especially children who may feel abandoned as he once did. More than anything, he longs for a safe home, people who care for him, and a future where he never has to feel alone again. Patrick has been experiencing cough, fever, and difficulty breathing, and his condition had steadily worsened. The good samaritan is also struggling and was unable to take him to hospital when the symptoms begun, due to lack of funds. After assessment, he was diagnosed with pneumonia. Given his vulnerability and the severity of his illness, the hospital in-charge referred him to Helpster Charity for support.

Diagnosis: Pneumonia confirmed based on symptoms (fever, cough, fast breathing) and clinical examination, with chest X-ray and blood tests as needed. Treatment: Started on appropriate antibiotics (oral or IV depending on severity), fever control with antipyretics, adequate fluids, and oxygen therapy if breathing was difficult. Monitoring: Close observation of breathing rate, oxygen levels, temperature, and response to antibiotics. Recovery: Symptoms gradually improved within a few days; fever subsided, breathing normalized, and appetite returned. Outcome: Patrick made a good recovery with no complications and was discharged/continued care at home with completion of antibiotics and follow-up advice.

With timely medical care, Patrick’s prognosis is good. Severe pneumonia in children can be life-threatening if untreated, but once appropriate antibiotics, oxygen support, and close monitoring are provided, most children recover well. As Patrick continues responding to treatment - his breathing improving, fever settling, and strength returning - he is expected to make a full recovery.
