Background
Don Carlos is a lively 9-year-old boy who's the oldest of six siblings. He's a polite and well-behaved young boy who loves playing football. His favorite footballer is Kylian Mbappe, and he dreams of becoming a lawyer who will handle important cases when he grows up. However, just a week ago, Don Carlos started experiencing joint pains, fever, sweating, and he had trouble thinking clearly. When the doctors tested his blood, they found out he had a severe case of malaria.
Medical history
A week prior to coming to the hospital, Don Carlos started experiencing joint pains, fever, sweating, and he had trouble thinking clearly. When the doctors tested his blood, they found out he had a severe case of malaria, as well as pneumonia. Don Carlos was started on IV Artesunate, p.o paracetamol and IV ceftriaxone. The patient fully recovered and was discharged home.
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences.
