Najib A., 20

Najib is a Form Two dropout from a humble, struggling family of three children, where he is the firstborn. His life changed completely two years ago when his mother passed away, leaving him and his siblings without parental care. About a year later, their father left home after a minor disagreement with his brothers over family land and has never returned. To this day, the children do not know where he is. Najib and his siblings moved in with their grandparents after their living conditions became difficult, and they now reside with their grandmother, grandfather, and two uncles. Najib was brought to the facility after a tree trunk accidentally fell on him, causing severe injuries. He arrived in very poor condition and extreme pain. Examination showed swelling and visible deformity of the left shoulder. An X-ray later confirmed a proximal humeral fracture with joint displacement. His younger sibling, who had rushed him to the hospital, explained to the staff that they only needed first aid because they could not afford the cost of treatment. However, Najib’s condition was too serious for them to go back home without proper care. Seeing the severity of the case and understanding the family’s situation, the hospital consulted the Helpster Charity Country Manager. After listening carefully to the details, the Country Manager assured the family that Najib would receive full treatment and that Helpster Charity would cover all medical expenses. Najib was then booked for open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with plating of the left proximal humerus.

Najib was rushed to emergency department in the facility unconsciously after a tree trunk accidentally fell on him, sustaining multiple injuries. On examination and further investigation, he was in severe pain and revealed swelling and deformity of the left shoulder. An X-ray showed a proximal humeral fracture with associated joint displacement. He underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) plating of the left proximal humerus after awhile he recovered gradually and discharged when stable.

Following appropriate surgical management with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), the prognosis for a displaced fracture of the left proximal humerus is favorable. Adequate anatomical reduction and stable fixation are expected to facilitate proper bone healing and restoration of shoulder alignment. With satisfactory postoperative care and adherence to a structured physiotherapy program, the patient is anticipated to achieve significant pain relief and progressive improvement in shoulder function.
