Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About digestion system

Gastritis is inflammation of the inner lining of the stomach. It occurs when the protective layer of the stomach is weakened, allowing stomach acid to irritate and damage the lining. This can cause symptoms such as upper abdominal pain (especially in the epigastric area), nausea, vomiting, bloating, and sometimes bleeding. In pregnancy, gastritis may worsen due to hormonal changes, increased stomach pressure, stress, or irregular meals.

Background

Emmah is a 20-year-old young woman living in a remote area with her mother, uncle, niece, and nephews. Her family faces considerable financial hardship. Her mother earns a modest income as a small-scale trader selling vegetables and fruits, bringing in approximately 2,000 shillings per month, which is barely sufficient to meet the household’s basic needs. As a result, the family continues to struggle with daily living expenses. Despite these challenges, Emmah remains hardworking and dependable, consistently supporting her mother in running the small business. She assists with sourcing produce, arranging the goods, and interacting with customers during sales. Through this involvement, she has developed practical skills in small-scale trading, customer relations, and basic financial management. Emmah is ambitious and hopeful about her future. She aspires to become a successful businesswoman who can grow beyond small-scale trade and establish a stable and profitable enterprise. Her determination, resilience, and optimism reflect her strong commitment to improving her family’s circumstances. Emmah is a known patient with peptic ulcer disease. She presented to the hospital with multiple episodes of blood-stained vomiting within the previous 24 hours, accompanied by abdominal pain, epigastric pain, severe headache associated with dizziness, and generalized body weakness that had persisted for four days. Following clinical assessment and laboratory investigations, she was diagnosed with acute gastritis and peptic ulcer disease in pregnancy. Due to the severity of her symptoms and her pregnancy status, she was admitted for treatment, close monitoring, and further management.

Medical history

Emmah is a known peptic ulcers disease patients, she came to the facility with complains of, vomiting with blood stained for several episodes in 24 hours, severe headache associated with dizziness, abdominal pain, epigastric pain and general body weakness for the last four days. Based on clinical examination and laboratory findings, she was diagnosed with acute gastritis and peptic ulcers disease in pregnancy. Was admitted for treatment and further management and responded well to medication and discharged when stabilized and in good condition.

Prognosis

Emmah presented with multiple episodes of blood-stained vomiting, severe epigastric and abdominal pain, dizziness, headache, and general body weakness. Clinical assessment and laboratory findings confirmed a diagnosis of acute gastritis and peptic ulcer disease in pregnancy. The presence of blood-stained vomiting indicates irritation and possible bleeding from the stomach lining, making her condition clinically significant. Immediate admission was necessary for close monitoring, stabilization, medication to reduce stomach acid, and supportive care to prevent further complications and ensure both maternal and fetal safety. With timely and appropriate treatment, the prognosis is generally good. Most patients respond well to medical therapy aimed at reducing stomach acid, promoting healing of the ulcer, and preventing further bleeding
