Salma Begum, a 26-year-old pregnant woman, has been diagnosed with a 36+ weeks single viable pregnancy complicated by oligohydramnios, meaning there is a reduced amount of amniotic fluid around the baby. This condition can affect the baby’s movement, growth, and oxygen supply inside the womb. She has also experienced leakage of fluid and reduced fetal movement, which are warning signs of possible complications. Immediate medical care is essential to ensure the safety of both the mother and the unborn child.

Background
Salma Begum, a 26-year-old pregnant woman, lives with her husband (35), two young sons (7 and 4), and elderly mother-in-law (65) in a low-income household where her husband earns only 8,000–9,000 BDT per month, making it difficult to manage daily expenses and impossible to afford medical care. She is a caring and responsible mother who hopes for a safe delivery and a healthy baby. At 36+ weeks of pregnancy, she developed leakage of fluid and reduced fetal movement, and doctors diagnosed severe oligohydramnios with fetal distress, advising an urgent caesarean section. However, due to financial hardship, her family is unable to afford the operation. She learned about Helpster Charity through local miking and sought help, as without timely treatment, both her life and her unborn baby’s life could be at serious risk.
Medical history
After experiencing, passage of gush of water and leaky membrane for 2 days and less fetal movement for 1 day without progressing labour pain, she arrived at our hospital at 1.00PM in 17th December 2025 and doctors performed an ultrasound that revealed amniotic fluid is very low with fetal distress , making vaginal delivery impossible. An emergency cesarean section was promptly arranged, and the procedure was successful, resulting in the birth of a beautiful female baby. Both the mother and the baby are safe and sound, with no complications arising from the surgery. We discharged the patient at 10.30AM in 20th December 2025.The patient's family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Helpster Heroes and the hospital for their timely and effective care.
Prognosis
With timely LUCS (caesarean section), Salma Begum can have a safe delivery, ensuring the well-being of both mother and baby despite low amniotic fluid. The procedure will reduce risks, support a healthy outcome, and allow the mother to recover well with proper care. However, if left untreated, oligohydramnios may lead to fetal distress, cord compression, and lack of oxygen to the baby, which can result in stillbirth. The mother may also face complications such as prolonged labor and infection. Therefore, immediate surgical care is essential.
