Encephalocele is a neural tube defect that causes brain tissue to grow through an opening in your newborn's skull and this affects brain development. Anterior frontal encephalocele is a rare congenital neural tube defect characterized by the herniation of intracranial components—such as meninges and brain tissue—through a defect in the frontal bone. These defects, frequently located near the forehead, nasal bridge, or inner canthus of the eye, are often categorized as frontoethmoidal or sincipital encephaloceles.

Background
Wealth David is 1 month and 4days old. He lives with his parents in a one room house. His the first child of the family. His father is a factory worker who is paid wages out of which he uses to cater for the famous family 3. His mother a petty trader tries to support by selling perishable food just beside their house. The family is hopeful that their son wealth will grow up to leave a normal life following the success of the surgery. The child was born with an abnormal swelling on the nose. It is a painless soft tissue that has not noticeably I creased in size since birth but there are fears of future complications if not corrected. The family first went to a general hospital close to their house but were referred to a Epsilon upon examination and clerking a surgical operation was advised. The family was accessed and admitted under Helpster Charity program as they could not pay the money for the surgery. Upon presentation, David was evaluated and diagnosed with a small Anterior Frontal Encephalocele. Requires surgical correction.
Medical history
Wealth David, just 4 months old, was born with a congenital frontoethmoidal encephalocele and was admitted on 18th March 2026 for surgery. On 19th March he underwent a successful procedure to excise the encephalocele, repair the skull base defect, and perform a duroplasty through bicoronal and facial approaches. His recovery in hospital was smooth — he remained stable, fed well, had no signs of infection or CSF leak, and his neurological checks stayed satisfactory. He was discharged home on 26th March 2026 in stable condition with medications, and his caregivers were advised to keep his wounds clean, watch for any warning signs, and attend regular neurosurgical follow-ups to monitor his healing and development.
Prognosis
A 1-month old baby presented with a congenital swelling called Encephalocele on anterior aspect of the nasal bridge. No side effects or complications have been observed yet except the unusual widening and the swelling at the bridge of the nose. The swelling or protrusion contains some brain tissue and meninges and requires utmost care and surgical treatment to prevent complications. With early intervention, prognosis is good. However, without intervention, the patient is at risk of complications in CFS leakage which may be followed by the future like meningitis.
