Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Jayden is the second-born in a family of three children. The family lives in a single-room rental house, and his mother runs a small-scale business that earns about KES 2,500 in monthly profit, which she uses to sustain the entire household. They fetch their drinking water from a borehole. At home, Jayden enjoys playing with his siblings, and he is a Grade 1 pupil at a rural junior school. He dreams of becoming a pilot in the future. Jayden began to experience high fever, persistent wheezing, and increasing difficulty in breathing. His condition worsened rapidly, making him weak, restless, and unable to play or attend school. At times, he struggled to breathe, and his breathing became fast and labored, which greatly worried his mother. Due to financial constraints, she was initially unable to seek timely medical care for him, and his condition continued to deteriorate. After being informed by a community health volunteer about support from Helpster Charity, his mother decided to take Jayden to Mechimeru Health Centre for urgent medical assessment and treatment. By the time he reached the facility, his condition was severe and required immediate medical intervention to stabilize him and prevent further complications.

Medical history

Jayden was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and admitted to the hospital for treatment and close monitoring. He received appropriate medications, including antibiotics, antiviral treatment, and pain relief, and gradually showed significant improvement. Once his condition had stabilized and he was considered well enough to continue recovering at home, he was discharged with appropriate medical advice. Jayden's mother expressed her sincere appreciation to Helpster Charity Organization for supporting her son's treatment and enabling him to receive the quality medical care he needed.

Prognosis

Jayden presented in a critical condition with high fever, severe wheezing, and marked respiratory distress, indicating a life-threatening acute respiratory illness. The delayed presentation due to financial constraints contributed to the severity of his condition at admission With the ongoing treatment, close monitoring, and follow-up care, Jayden’s prognosis is hopeful. His condition shows potential for improvement.
